Yavapai County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Lopez fatally shot in Cordes Lakes

Deputy Richard Lopez, 51, died after being shot while trying to detain a suspect for potential theft.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputy who died after being shot on Tuesday in Cordes Lakes has been recognized as 51-year-old Richard Lopez, often called “Arlo.”

Lopez was attempting to detain an individual suspect of theft when he was shot, Sheriff David Rhodes mentioned in a press convention late Tuesday. It is unclear precisely what led to the taking pictures. 

“We don’t have a lot of facts about what happened at that time,” Rhodes mentioned. 

Members of the neighborhood referred to as 911 and mentioned an officer was in misery. When deputies responded, they discovered Lopez unresponsive and he was taken to a hospital in Phoenix, Rhodes mentioned. 

Kristen Green, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, mentioned the deputy died surrounded by family members.

The suspect, whose id hasn’t been launched, barricaded himself in a house in the realm for a number of hours. Rhodes mentioned the Sheriff’s Office detained him with the assistance of the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The suspect was going through first-degree homicide costs.
