The Peanut Butter Bowl

SAN ANTONIO – Even earlier than the primary ball is snapped this highschool soccer season, opposing groups are teaming as much as overpower a single opponent — starvation.

Each year, since 2016, highschool soccer groups in and across the San Antonio space, have devoted their week 1 recreation to preventing starvation by collaborating in a contest known as the Peanut Butter Bowl.

The Peanut Butter Bowl was developed by Steve Teel, following an interview with Daily Bread Ministries for his podcast, Very Bold.

During this interview, Teel realized that Daily Bread Ministries, like many different meals distributing organizations, collected and delivered meals to assist the 1000’s of kids and households dealing with meals insecurity.


Teel says in the course of the tour, he remembers seeing an space with quite a lot of peanut butter, “I asked who it was for and if they needed more.”

It so occurred that ‘they’ — Snack Pak 4 Kids — really may use extra peanut butter and at that second, Steve had a powerful want to assist.

“I felt I needed to do something with this information. It felt like a higher calling,” Teel mentioned.

Armed with what he had realized from his interview and an concept, Steve captured the curiosity of his nice good friend and highschool soccer coach, Ron Rittimann and the Peanut Butter Bowl was devised.

Since its inception, the Peanut Butter Bowl, organized by Very Bold Ministries, has collected 95 thousand jars value of peanut butter. This highschool soccer competitors continues to develop and achieve momentum every year.


In 2016, the Peanut Butter Bowl began with simply two San Antonio groups, Johnson and Brandeis. Since then, it’s grown to greater than two dozen groups throughout the state.

Here’s the way it works:

  • Teams conform to take part within the Peanut Butter Bowl

  • Schools accumulate donations of peanut butter and funds to donate to an area starvation reduction group

  • The faculty with probably the most donations will win the Peanut Butter Bowl Champions Cup
