Suspect in critical condition after car chase, police-involved shooting in the Bronx

NEW YORK — One suspect is in custody and one other is hospitalized Sunday after a car chase ended with a police-involved shooting in the Bronx.

A suspect fired towards police a number of instances whereas officers have been tying to arrest him for a stolen car, CBS2’s Christina Fan reported.

The pursuit began at an intersection in the Highbridge part and ended close to the Major Deegan Expressway.   

Police mentioned members of the thirtieth Precinct obtained a name a few car break-in at round 11:45 p.m. Saturday. While responding, they seen one other car driving recklessly.

Officers ran that car’s plate, noticed it was stolen and began a pursuit. The chase prolonged to the forty fourth Precinct, the place one suspect was arrested close to 161st Street and Summit.

A second suspect in the car fled throughout a close-by foot bridge whereas shooting at officers. According to police, he bumped into the marsh space subsequent to the Major Deegan and shot at the officers once more. 

“There’s about a 10-minute lapse between event one and event two. Aviation units lit up the marsh area and that’s when a second exchange of gunfire took place. The male was shot and immediately after being shot, our officers picked up this male, physically, walked him up to the side of the highway to render life-saving aid,” mentioned NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell. 

Police mentioned the suspect is a 39-year-old man who is thought to the division. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition.

No officers have been damage, however we realized a minimum of three fired their weapons throughout the chase.

Police recovered two weapons used in the gunfire.
