Opening statements begin Wednesday in Chicago trial against R. Kelly

CHICAGO (CBS) — Opening statements to begin in the Chicago trial of R&B star R. Kelly Wednesday. It follows jury choice which wrapped up Tuesday.

In all, jury choice took two days with a decide swearing in the jury Tuesday night. There are actually 12 jurors and 6 alternates.

As for opening statements, federal prosecutors mentioned they would want roughly one hour — whereas Kelly’s protection group mentioned they are going to want about 45 minutes.

Attorneys for Kelly’s former business supervisor and one other affiliate who’s being tried alongside him mentioned they want about an hour whole.

Kelly is going through a 13-count federal indictment together with little one pornography and obstruction of justice costs.

Federal prosecutors say he and his associates conspired to rig his little one pornography trial in prepare dinner county in 2008.
