CHICAGO — The Magnificent Mile Lights competition is underway within the Loop
From the annual tree lighting to the ice rink opening again up in Millenium Park, town is rejoicing for the holiday festivities.
Among these celebrated occasions is the Mag Mile Lights Festival parade, which marks an unofficial Chicago custom that kicks off the holiday season each year, and regardless of the frigid temperatures, 1000’s nonetheless lined the parade route down the historic Chicago street from Oak Street to Wacker Drive.
“Just to know that the city of Chicago came and put all of this together, so we could come back and reunite with our families,” stated Karibe A.T. “It means a lot.”
In preparation for the parade, CPD positioned barricades alongside the parade’s route and started ramping up their police presence downtown.
“This morning they came and checked and made sure we were okay,” stated Mayra Cisneros, General Manager of Chicago Sports and Novelty, about CPD’s downtown security program throughout the holiday season. “They’re walking around [and] they’re more approachable.”
Once the parade ends, parade attendees can count on fireworks to start close to the intersection of Wacker and Michigan round 7 p.m.
