Juneteenth in San Antonio: How the Alamo City is commemorating

For many, the vacation is each a time of reflection and a time of celebration.

SAN ANTONIO — This Sunday is Juneteenth, the anniversary of the official finish of slavery, and several other organizations are providing methods to honor the vacation right here in San Antonio.

The official finish of slavery occurred on June 19, 1865. On that day, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take management of the state and be certain that all enslaved individuals have been freed. That was greater than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation throughout the Civil War.  

For many, the vacation is each a time of reflection and a time of celebration. In San Antonio, the day might be commemorated with reside music, a well being honest, and occasions honoring the Black artwork neighborhood.
