How Apple’s iPhone Is Affected By Europe’s New USB-C Rule
Unsurprisingly, Apple stands to face the most important headache from the EU’s landmark laws. The company has remained loyal to the reason for its Lightning port on iPhones, despite the fact that it has transitioned a lot of its iPad line-up to the USB-C normal over the previous few years. However, Apple has repeatedly resisted makes an attempt to ditch the Lightning port in favor of USB-C on the iPhones. The reluctance isn’t a surprise, as Apple has constructed a complete ecosystem of equipment and sells each in-house and third-party gadgets tailored for the Lightning interface.
The EU’s transfer makes it abundantly clear, although, that if Apple needs to promote iPhones within the bloc, it must put a USB-C connector on the iPhones by the year 2024. Alex Agius Saliba, the European Parliament’s Rapporteur, made it clear throughout a press briefing that the transfer would not goal Apple and that it applies to all manufacturers whose merchandise fall beneath the amended Radio Equipment Directive’s aegis.
All the identical, it seems that the directive to place USB-C on an iPhone might not come because the bombshell for Apple that many may suppose. Per earlier leaks, Apple has already been testing USB-C port for charging and file switch on its future iPhones, with a transition potentialyl occurring in 2023 or a year after that. Either means, the change seems inevitable, and it may imply an enormous upset forward for each iPhone customers and accessory-makers alike.
