Won ‘Sound of Metal’ at 2021 Oscars for Best Sound – Deadline

Amazon Studios’ Metal sound Won the Oscar on Sunday for Best Sound, the award was revealed during the Oscarcast on ABC by the film’s star Riz Ahmed.

Jeet for the indie film, about a heavy metal drummer who starts losing his hearing, was the first event of the night. It came with six nominations in total, including Ahmed for Best Actor and Film for Best Film. The triumph of the sound was apt, with the sound in all its forms, its lack, a set of story.

The award went to Nicholas Baker, Jaime Bakhsh, Michele Coutlenc, Carlos Cortés and Philippe Blade of the same crew who won the Predictive Cinema Audio Society honors for Best Motion Picture – Live Action earlier this year. Tonight, Ahmed announced the winner with a hint of smike as he showed the contents of the envelope to the camera. (Check out the video above.)

Metal sound Baker received so much care, love and attention from his team, Baker said, while four of his co-workers came on stage at Union Station. “[The film had] So much energy – we believe this is one of the reasons that this film has received… beautifully. So thank you for that.”

The year marked the first for the new joint category of Oscars, which combine sound mixing and sound editing; Oscar Academy switched to only one of four categories in the last seven years, resulting in the same winner in both races. Was recently pulled by double Bohemian Rhapsody; Last year, 1917 Sound mixing and won Ford v ferrari Sound editing won.

The last time the stand-alone best sound category was 2002, when Chicago Won.
