DA: Kiani Phoenix charged with murder in deadly hit-and-run outside Queens deli

NEW YORK — A lady who allegedly drove onto a New York City sidewalk and fatally struck a person sitting in a walker has been charged with murder and different crimes, prosecutors introduced Wednesday.

Kiani Phoenix, 26, was arraigned Tuesday in the dying of 59-year-old Milton Storch, who couldn’t rise up from his walker in time to flee being mowed down, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz stated. A 36-year-old man was additionally struck by Phoenix’s automobile and handled for again and hip accidents, Katz stated.

The crash occurred Saturday morning after Phoenix and one other lady started arguing inside a comfort retailer in Far Rockaway, Katz stated.

Surveillance video from the scene reveals two ladies preventing close to a parked automobile as they exit the shop, with onlookers attempting to separate them. Phoenix then bought in a automobile, reversed and turned proper onto the sidewalk, apparently aiming for the girl she had been preventing, Katz stated. The lady was capable of dart from the trail of the automobile, however Storch was struck and killed. The automobile then reversed and hit the 36-year-old man, prosecutors stated.

Phoenix fled the scene however turned herself in to police on Monday. She is charged with murder, tried murder, assault, leaving the scene with out reporting it and legal possession of a weapon.

“The alleged criminal actions of this defendant resulted in fatal consequences, and she will now face justice in our courts,” Katz stated.

Phoenix’s lawyer, Marvyn Kornberg, stated his consumer has “mental problems” and added, “The reaction in this case was caused by the actions of one of the complainants.”
