Common To Make Broadway Debut In ‘Between Riverside And Crazy’ – Deadline

Common, the actor, rapper and songwriter who has gained Oscar, Emmy and Grammy Awards, will make his Broadway debut within the coveted function of “Junior” in Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play Between Riverside and Crazy.

Today’s announcement by the Second Stage Theater completes casting for the play, which begins performances Nov. 30 at Second Stage’s Hayes Theater forward of a Dec. 19 opening evening.

Earlier this week, the manufacturing introduced that many of the cast members of the acclaimed 2015 Off Broadway manufacturing will reprise their roles for Broadway, together with Stephen McKinley Henderson, Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colón, Liza Colón-Zayas and Michael Rispoli.

In the 2015 staging, the function of Junior was performed by Ron Cephas-Jones.

The play, directed by Austin Pendleton, tells the story of ex-cop and up to date widower Walter “Pops” Washington (Stephen McKinley Henderson) and his not too long ago paroled son Junior (Common) as they wrestle to carry on to one of many final nice hire stabilized residences on Riverside Drive.
