If you asked me to name the correct motorhome, I would tell you that it is a Chinook Concourse from the ’90s and early 00s. This small RV is built on a sturdy Ford E-series chassis with a one-piece fiberglass shell and just enough space for two is the best combination of size and utility, in my humble opinion. A good example late in the model run can still go for over $ 50,000 on the used market, and they hold up remarkably well. but ChinookThe producer went belly up before the big financial crisis in 2008, and we never got to see how the Concourse would have developed.
Now we have a very good idea for this custom “Chinook” found for sale on eBay. While it may look similar to a Concourse Fresh from the factory, even from a striking resemblance to a rare one 4×4 Off-Road Baja Model The company sold for a short time, it is completely custom from the ground up.
The seller describes this 2005 Ford E-450 with a 6.0-liter diesel that began life as an ambulance that received a 4×4 conversion from the famous aftermarket organization Quigley and was used by a volunteer fire rescue company in the Midwest . It retired from firefighting around 2016 with only 12,000 miles and was raised by a gentleman who owned a custom fabrication shop and … you can see where this is going.
This guy bought an example of my beloved Chinook Concourse and proceeded to marry his living quarters with the off-road mechanicals of the E-450. The seller, who does not seem to be the same person who did the construction, claims that hundreds of hours of customization and more than a year of work went into making this amazing off-road “Chinook”.
The list of customizations and upgrades is too long to get here, but we will share the highlights. The entire interior has been remodeled with new appliances and a gray gray and white color palette. The floor is now a durable and easy to clean rubber base mat instead of carpet. The generator was removed and replaced with 700 watts (!) Of roof and 400ah of lithium ion battery on the roof.
As you may have noticed, the front end was replaced with the new, blocky look of the modern 2018 EcoLine, and hung at the rear is a custom aluminum ladder, extra tire holder, and rack for extra storage. The engine was also upgraded to a bullet-proof level of power and durability, and the suspension now features modern Fox components and an air bag leveling system. Completing the list of features is full LED exterior lighting and chunky Goodyear Wrangler tires.
I am keen to sell my house and as I type the last term here, so is this RV. $ 150,000 for asking price. Actually, it’s $ 149,990, but whose count is it at that point? The price may be detectable, but compared to a new motorhome of similar size and capacity, this is not the case at all. The new Winnabago Ekko, for example, has an MSRP of over $ 160,000. And while you are not going to get a factory warranty or the latest security technology with this “Chinook”, but you will be the only one on earth who will like it.
