Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible Debuts As 650-HP Droptop

The Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible comes just a few weeks after the Coupe’s debut for those who want to combine power with open-air motoring. As a British luxury brand, the cabin is also grand.

Like the coupe, the Continental GT Speed Convertible features a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 that makes 650 horsepower (485 kW) and 664 pound-feet (900 newton-meters) of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission routes the power to an all-wheel-drive system.

The powertrain gets a top speed of 60 mph (96 kmph) in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 208 mph (335 kmph). For comparison, this is one-tenth of the coupe’s slow speed of 60 meters per second compared to 3.5 seconds, but the maximum velocity is the same.

In addition to sufficient power, the Continental GT Speed Convertible has technology to ensure that the larger coupe can handle corners. There are all-wheel steering and an electronic rear differential. It rides on an active air suspension with adaptive dampers, including an anti-roll control system. Optional carbon-ceramic brakes slow things down.

Aesthetically, the Continental GT Speed Convertible distinguishes itself from the standard model by wearing a dark-tinted grille mesh and tweed side sills. The 22-inch forged wheels are available in Dark Tint, Bright Silver and Black Gloss.

The Continental GT Speed Convertible roof opens and closes in 19 seconds. The soft top is available in seven colors, including black, blue, claret and gray. Also, the interior liner comes in eight colors, such as Hue’s New Red and Magnolia.

Inside, the leather has two-tone upholstery and Alcantara available in 15 main and 11 secondary colors. The fake suede material also covers the steering wheel. The Diamond-in-Diamond quilt adds a visual pop to the cabin. Buyers can choose Piano Black, Crown Cut Walnut, Dark Stein Burt Walnut, and Dark Feldback Eucalyptus Veneer as trim. For more money, there are other wood trim selections and engine-based aluminum consoles.

For the droptop, a neckwarmer is integrated into the headrest. Bentley says that it blows hot air and is quieter than previous models.

Bentley is yet to discuss the sale of the Continental GT Speed Convertible in the US.
