Armed Man Is Arrested Near Home of Justice Kavanaugh
An armed man was arrested early Wednesday close to the Maryland residence of Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh after making threats in opposition to the Supreme Court justice, a spokeswoman for the courtroom stated. The man was taken to the 2nd District Police Station in Bethesda, Md.
The spokeswoman, Patricia McCabe, stated the person, who was arrested round 1:50 a.m., was armed, however she didn’t specify what kind of weapon he was carrying. The arrest was reported earlier by The Washington Post. In a press release, the F.B.I. stated that it was conscious of the arrest, and that it was working with regulation enforcement businesses.
Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland stated in a press release on Wednesday that he had requested Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in May to extend safety outdoors the justices’ houses.
“I call on leaders in both parties in Washington to strongly condemn these actions in no uncertain terms,” Governor Hogan, a Republican, stated. “It is vital to our constitutional system that the justices be able to carry out their duties without fear of violence against them and their families.”
There have been protests outdoors the house of Justice Kavanaugh and people of the opposite justices since a leaked draft of a Supreme Court opinion was revealed final month suggesting that the justices are poised to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade resolution guaranteeing the best to an abortion.
In a bulletin issued on Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security stated that after the publication of the leaked draft opinion, advocates for and in opposition to abortion rights have “encouraged violence” on public boards, “including against government, religious, and reproductive healthcare personnel and facilities, as well as those with opposing ideologies.”
This is a creating story.
